From September 29, 2025 to October 1, 2025, the 40th Anniversary Conference of the World Association of Major Metropolises was successfully held in Seoul, South Korea, with over 100 representatives from cities around the world in attendance. Delegates from the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC), along with representatives from Chinese mainland member cities such as Guangzhou, Shijiazhuang, Fuzhou, Wuhan, and Changsha, were invited to participate in the conference. They actively engaged in various activities, shared experiences in urban governance, and achieved positive outcomes.

During the conference, the working group held bilateral meetings with Fatiha El Moudni, President of the World Association of Major Metropolises and Mayor of Rabat, Morocco; Jordi Vaquer, Secretary-General of the World Association of Major Metropolises; Emilia Sáiz, Secretary-General of the World Organisation of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG); and Bernadia Tjandradewi, Secretary-General of UCLG ASPAC. Foreign representatives expressed their gratitude for the long-standing support from the CPAFFC and encouraged the CPAFFC to promote greater participation from Chinese cities in the activities of various international organizations, thereby fostering stronger exchanges and mutual learning between Chinese and foreign cities.
Founded in 1985, the World Association of Major Metropolises is a key member of the World Organisation of United Cities and Local Governments. With more than 150 members, all of which are large cities with populations exceeding one million, the association currently includes 31 member cities in Chinese mainland.
